Dr. George Carruthers, graduated as 'student of the year' from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in 1994, with a B.Sc. in Chiropractic from Portsmouth University. On completion of his Provisional Registration year George was awarded his D.C. in 1995. He went on to read for an M.Sc. in Clinical Chiropractic in 1998 which he completed in 2002. His dissertation covered the efficacy of chiropractic care in Whiplash associated disorders. He has been published in both Chiropractic journals and other media.

George opened his first clinics in Broomhill, Sheffield and Chesterfield in 1994. He has always been active in the chiropractic profession, both on an academic as well as a political level. As a chiropractic student, George was a member of the AECC's Academic Board, and on graduation was made Chairman of the British Chiropractic Association's (BCA) "feed-back" Committee. He joined the BCA's council in 1996, becoming an executive officer in 1998 before taking on the role for a two-year term as national president in 2001 and through his presidency became a member of the General Council of the European Chiropractors Union. He will complete his one year term as Immediate Past President of the BCA in October 2004, and has been asked to join the Administrative Council of the European Chiropractors Union as off November 2004. He has given talks at both internationally accredited Chiropractic institutions, the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic and the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic.

George was involved in the formation of the College of Chiropractors (CoC) where, as the regional post-graduate faculty chairman for Yorkshire, he was a director of the College at its inception. He was also instrumental, with a colleague, in setting up and forming the clinical specialist Faculty of Rehabilitation and Chiropractic Orthopaedics (FRCO) which set the template for the CoCs' clinical specialist faculty structure. George became the first Director of Academic Affairs of the FRCO and was a member of the College of Chiropractors, Court of Electors, both roles he held until taking over as President of the BCA.

In 1998 he was made a fellow of the FRCO, in 1999 a fellow of the College of Chiropractors (FCC) and since 2000 holds a specialist clinical fellowship from the College of Chiropractors in Orthopaedics (FCC (Ortho)). He is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Health (FRSH). George holds membership of the FRCO, the Pain Society, the British Society of Rheumatology and the International Headache Society. His areas of special interest include; spinal and functional rehabilitation, whiplash injury and headaches. George also worked at Sheffield Wednesday sports clinic from 1998-2000.
